Posts about the Anal Only Lifestyle blog and community itself, rather than the concept of anal only.

Your Help Needed!

2018 Anal Only Lifestyle Roundup

Read our previous roundup for 2017 here.

2018 was a big year for the Anal Only Lifestyle community, with some major changes—some positive, some negative, but all helping it evolve and move further into the future.

Our Tumblr blogs nearly reached 150,000 followers for the most active blog, and collectively had well over 200,000 followers. The number of other anal only blogs continued to grow this year as well, and discussion of and interest in anal only remained quite active.

However, just this past month Tumblr announced it was banning all adult content as of December 17, 2018, and that was the end of that. A platform perfectly suited to growing interest in the anal only lifestyle was suddenly gone. Fortunately, our community was designed from the start with the possibility of this happening, and we were already spread across multiple platforms with our Forum and Discord server, as well as this blog being set up on its own domain despite still pointing to Tumblr. We quickly archived all our blog content and set out to migrate this blog off Tumblr, manually moving over 1,800 posts from this and its counterpart blogs into a new self-hosted format that gives us far more control and independence from future platform censorship.

Our forum had slow growth and little activity for much of the year, suffering from changes to Google ranking that kept it largely hidden from relevant search queries. Tumblr’s changes last year to the public visibility and search engine indexing of adult oriented blogs made quite an impact as well, causing many of the internet’s links to the forum to disappear from Google’s view. Now, at the end of the year, however, it appears this is finally changing thanks to the new blog and its wealth of high quality links to the forum reappearing to search engines. Both the blog and forum now appear on the front page of many queries, and visitation and membership have grown significantly.

Also helping membership on the forum and Discord server is the Tumblr shutdown, which has sent readership to countless blogs scattering across multiple platforms, and it’s no different for us. After posting about the imminent demise of Tumblr, the forum grew by over 800 members and passed 2,000 members last week, while the Discord server has nearly 2,000 new members.

In other news, we had two successful anal only challenge months this year, debuting Anal Only April for the first time—which was quite the success!—and celebrating the sixth annual No Pussy November. You can read about both in our archive (another new addition!) and perhaps get inspired to participate yourself this next year if you didn’t previously.

We just launched a new section of this blog, the Anal Sex Advice & Guide to the Anal Only Lifestyle page, which strives to answer many of the common questions people have about anal sex and going anal only. The process of migrating posts from the old blog to this one made it obvious just how many times some of the same questions were asked and answered over the years, and consolidating that information into a single resource that can be edited, updated, and expanded over time for all to see and benefit from seemed like an obvious step forward. Feel free to suggest any topics you’d like to see added, and keep checking back for updates to this section.

Some will no doubt be wondering what’s next for the companion porn blogs that accompanied this blog on Tumblr. At this time, there are no particular plans as there simply aren’t any suitable platforms to move forward with in the same way as on Tumblr, but we’re watching the various options out there and experimenting with them as they become available and continue to improve. When and if a decision is made to resume posting in that format, an announcement will be made on this blog, and you can also check in on our Anal Only Porn Blogs page where the various popular Tumblr blogs are tracked to see where they migrate to.

Now, it’s your turn. How was your year, both in a general sense, and as it relates to the anal only lifestyle? What’s next for you, and what do you hope to achieve? And, what would you like to see next with the Anal Only Lifestyle blog and greater community? Share all your ideas and suggestions, and we’ll work towards achieving them.

Stay anal only, and stay tuned. We’ve got a lot of exciting new things planned for 2019.

Announcing the new Guide to the Anal Only Lifestyle

Merry Christmas! For years, we’ve been answering questions about anal sex and the anal only lifestyle and giving advice to countless people through this blog, and that’s never going to change! But, while manually migrating nearly 1,900 posts off Tumblr to the new version of this blog, it became clear that many of the same questions got answered over and over again over the years.

To prevent redundant posts going forward, we’re happy to announce a new section on this blog, accessible via the Guide link in the menu at the top of each page, Anal Sex Advice & Guide to the Anal Only Lifestyle. Broken into a number of key topics, this page attempts to answer in detail most of the frequently asked questions about anal training, myths about anal sex, hygiene and enemas, types of lubricant, butt plug and dildo recommendations, how to have anal sex for the first time, how to have anal orgasms, how to go anal only and why one might want to do so, dating and finding new partners for an anal only relationship, and more.

More topics will be added in time, and more details will be added to pages as relevant additions come up or are recommended. If you see anything missing or that you believe is incorrect or should be amended, please feel free to send a message or leave a comment on this post and let us know.

Milestone: 2,000 Members on the Anal Only Lifestyle Forum

Since we first launched the Anal Only Lifestyle forum way back in 2013, only a few months after this blog first launched, we’ve experienced slow but steady growth. Now, just in time to wrap up 2018, we’ve reached 2,000 members, and are approaching 10,000 posts. If you haven’t already, why don’t you stop by and join yourself, or if you’re already a member, add your perspective to some of the many discussions ongoing.

At the same time, our Anal Only Lifestyle Discord server, which serves a similar role as the forum but for realtime chat rather than longer form posts over longer periods of time, recently passed 2,500 members, though we average around 150 online at a time. Come and say hi, introduce yourself and join in the conversations here as well.

Thanks to everyone who’s joined in this wonderful, intelligent, friendly, respectful and inspirational community and helped to make it what it is! As we head into 2019, we hope to keep growing and improving. What would you like to see us focus on?

Message: Where Is The Anal Only Lifestyle Going Post-Tumblr?

Where did u migrate to?

As noted in our posts on Tumblr and our Welcome post for the new version of this blog, this blog has migrated to this location off of Tumblr, where it will continue as it always has. Our Forum and Discord server also continue to be active. Our affiliated porn blogs that existed on Tumblr for the last 5 years currently have no suitable new home, and we are not moving them anywhere at this time but are continuing to watch the platforms that are popping up to see what might ultimately be appropriate for them.

We have an Anal Only Porn Blogs page here that is tracking where the various blogs end up. Many of them are in the same boat, waiting it out at the moment to see which platforms end up most popular and feature-friendly for our style of blogging. Keep checking back on that page to see where your favorite blogs end up.

Welcome to the new Anal Only Lifestyle Blog

We’ve now officially moved off Tumblr and will be continuing this blog here. The blog’s appearance will no doubt continue to evolve as time goes on, but for now we have all our content archived and are able to continue posting without Tumblr’s new adult content restrictions affecting us.

You can search the entire archive, browse by category (instead of tags), and continue to ask questions/submit stories, which we will answer and post as we have always done. We don’t currently have a private messaging option available, but you can do this via our Forum or Discord server if so desired.

We’ve also created a page tracking where the various Tumblr Anal Only porn blogs are moving to over time. If you run such a blog and it’s not listed, let us know, and also please let us know if you have moved one of the blogs listed to a new platform so we can help others find you.

If you notice any issues, broken features, broken links, or anything else, feel free to let us know.

When Tumblr bans porn, who loses?

tranarchist:

A former staff engineer, who recently left Tumblr and asked to remain anonymous for professional reasons, tells Vox that the NSFW ban was “in the works for about six months as an official project,” adding that it was given additional resources and named “Project X” in September, shortly before it was announced to the rest of the company at an all-hands meeting. “[The NSFW ban] was going to happen anyway,” the former engineer told me. “Verizon pushed it out the door after the child pornography thing and made the deadline sooner,” but the real problem was always that Verizon couldn’t sell ads next to porn.

Porn on Tumblr is something Verizon needs to wipe out if it’s going to make any money off what it thinks is actually valuable about the platform — enormous fandom and social justice communities that, just before the Verizon acquisition, Khalaf was insisting the staff figure out how to better monetize.

On that note-

Two former Tumblr employees said they were alarmed when Khalaf chose Black Lives Matter as an example of a community that the company should focus on converting into Yahoo media consumers. One told The Verge, “Simon explicitly said that Black Lives Matter was an opportunity to [make] a ton of money.”

Message: Where Will You Be Going After December 17?

lareinesamuse: Hello, I love your blog and will be sad to lose it. Do you have a presence on Bdsmlr? If so, I would be eager to follow you there!

While our porn blogs may or may not resume elsewhere (bdsmlr is a possible alternative, but we haven’t settled on anything yet), this blog will be moving to a self-hosted format at https://www.analonlylifestyle.blog, which we are currently in the process of migrating our 1600+ posts to. Be sure to bookmark that address. It currently points back right here, but by the 17th will be pointing to the new version of the blog instead.

Be sure to also join the Anal Only Lifestyle forum and Discord server for the extended anal only community. The blog and all other aspects of the community is linked from there as well, and links will be updated and posts will be made announcing the future of the porn blogs if we find a suitable platform for them.

BBC: Tumblr’s porn ban abandons the marginalised

Tumblr has a major porn problem – bots, spam and, most seriously, images of child abuse.

But for those that use its site legally, the decision to ban adult content across its entire network is seen as a reluctance to tackle the issues properly.

Tumblr has decided to give up, rather than do as other sites have done and invest in measures to handle illegal content, while allowing sexual expression.

“There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content,” said Jeff D’Onofrio, the site’s chief executive, in explaining the decision.

He’s right, of course. There’s a lot of porn out there. But Tumblr has long offered something different, and important.

Founded 11 years ago, Tumblr is a platform where users can publish text, images and videos quickly, as well as share and comment on other submissions. The site’s popularity peaked in 2014. Yet as its use dwindled, its reputation as an alternative corner of the internet grew, not least as a place to find unique adult material.

Unlike typical pornography sites, which overwhelmingly cater to men, and serve an often narrow definition of what is attractive, Tumblr has been a home for something else – content tailored at vibrant LGBT communities, or for those with tastes you might not necessarily share with all your friends.

If society deems it acceptable for any porn to be on the internet, then that acceptance must surely be inclusive. Unlike most of those other sites Mr D’Onofrio speaks of, Tumblr has been a space where different body types are sexually celebrated, not degraded.

In 2015, Cosmopolitan described Tumblr as a place where women “can explore their sexuality with the support of women without judgement or fear”.

It argued that Tumblr’s design seemed to cater to different physical need: offering a slow, building stream of visual and emotional content – rather than the instant video gratification of sites designed with hurried male audiences in mind, fast-forward button and all.
